A bit of bad news
November 14, 2024 in Business
Updated December 5, 2024

The operators of The Hub pizza bar have announced a temporary closure of the shop until further notice. As this follows the closure of Brazen Burgers in the same location it looks very likely that Oberon has lost another business. Oberon Matters will be following this story with a little bit of optimism (but not too much).
It looks like that optimism was unfounded. Click to see why.

A bit of change at the railway
November 14, 2024 in Community

The regular Open Days at the Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway are no more. The OTHR committee had this to say:

The Committee has decided, effective immediately, that as we push towards our goal of a heritage passenger service to Hazelgrove that our regular Open Days held on the 1st Saturday of each month will be suspended. There will be no Open Day tomorrow, November 2nd and onwards. This decision will free up volunteer time to facilitate the establishment of passenger operations.

Oberon Matters will miss dropping in for morning tea after the Farmers' Market, but anything that can hasten the reopening of the line must be welcomed.

Book Review - "Living Treasures of Oberon" by Mick Joffe
November 21, 2024 in Reviews, People and Community

If you have walked through the Oberon Common lately you can't have failed to see the wall of Living Treasures. This book not only lets you see what the sketches in the plates on the wall are like, but includes a comprehensive story about each picture and the person featured. It is a wonderful example of the way that a community is made up of the people in it and their stories.
