A gala day of tennis

November 14, 2024

Tennis New South Wales has partnered with the Australian Tennis Foundation (ATF) to help provide opportunities to Western regional and rural schools of NSW to access tennis and spark an interest and love for the sport.

The partnership aims to promote community connection and mental wellbeing through tennis and gives communities the tools to deliver tennis year-round.

Oberon Tennis Club was full of excitement as it hosted a highly successful School Gala Day on Thursday, November 7. Over 100 students from four local schools (Oberon Public School, O'Connell Public School, St Joseph's Catholic School and Hampton Public School) gathered for a fun-filled day of tennis, learning and friendly competition.

The day provided a unique opportunity for students to connect with their peers from neighbouring schools. Through team-based activities and social games, students formed new friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport, all while experiencing the joys of playing tennis in a supportive and welcoming environment.

O'Connell Public School teacher Mitch Hardy expressed how the day "is a great opportunity for the kids to develop their skills, make new friends and try out the game of tennis. This coincided really well with our PDHPE curriculum as some of the skills they've been focusing on today, they've built on from school, so it's been a great experience for them".

Oberon Tennis Club and Tennis NSW would like to thank the participating schools, coaches and volunteers for making the event a memorable experience for all involved and are looking forward to hosting more community events such as this to ignite an interest and love for the game that will last a lifetime.

A lot of action and fun.
