The gingerbread people are back!

November 28, 2024

When you drive through O'Connell these days you will see lots of gingerbread people and houses attached to fences and posts. This is a project to raise money for the O'Connell Public School's P&C. While a coffee was being built at the Get Roasted cafe, Oberon Matters had a walk around taking photographs. (The coffee was still hot afterwards.) This resulted in 94 photos (!), but the project still has a long time to run until Christmas and sponsorship of more gingerbreads is still wanted and needed.

See the 94 photos here (7:50).

This sort of thing doesn't happen by accident, and a lot of people have to be thanked.

  • Boards were donated by Bathurst Joinery and kitchen manufacturers, Kelso Kitchens and Borg Panels.
  • Cut outs were completed by community volunteers (Philip Mahon, Kathy Manton, Steve Child and Adam Lavelle) and Oberon Men's Shed.
  • Paint was donated by Pride Painting and More in conjunction with Dulux
  • Star posts for the gingerbread village, which is expected to include over 55 gingerbread houses, were donated by O'Connell Hotel.
  • There were over 90 community volunteers working to pull it all together.
  • Bunnings donated over $700 worth of supplies and prizes.
There will be an official launch shortly and Oberon Matters will be there along with all the usual dignitaries. There will also be an announcement of the winners in the gingerbread village competition, which has attracted entries from many schools and organisations in the region.

And yes, I put my debit card where my mouth is, and so should you.
