Meet the candidates August 8, 2024 in Community The Oberon Business and Tourism Association Inc is hosting a "Meet the Candidates" evening at the Oberon RSL club on Thursday, August 29, commencing at 7pm. All residents in the Oberon LGA who will be voting in the upcoming local government elections are invited to attend.
This will be an opportunity for the residents of the Oberon LGA to meet the candidates, hear what they have to say and ask them questions about their plans if elected to Oberon Council. The elections will be held on Saturday, September 14. Pre-polling opens on September 7. | |

The wind farm issue keeps the breezes blowing August 1, 2024 in Community TagEnergy and Stromlo Energy returned on August 25 and 27 with two more community information sessions about the proposed wind farms in the pine forests near Oberon. Burraga celebrates Christmas in July July 25, 2024 in Community The day had been shockingly cold (even for Oberon), there was snow all over the roads at Black Springs, there was rain, there were winds trying to blow the car off the road, hailstones bounced off the windscreen, but despite all that Oberon Matters made it all the way out to Burraga for Christmas in July. Oberon RSL Sub Branch gets to renovate the wall July 4, 2024 in Community There has been some good news at the Oberon RSL Sub Branch. They have received a grant of $17,000 under the NSW Government Community Building Partnership program. A cheque presented by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole means that the War Memorial Wall out the front of the Oberon Military Museum in Oberon Street can receive a much-needed makeover. More money brings the railway closer to reality June 27, 2024 in Community Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway (OTHR) has received a welcome boost to the funds required to get the railway back in service. OTHR gets a new train to work on June 20, 2024 in Community There was much excitement as a steam engine was delivered to Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway (OTHR). It is part of an arrangement between OTHR and Transport Heritage NSW (THNSW) and after restoration will become part of a static display. See the story and photos here

Oberon's new childcare centre is on its way June 20, 2024 in Community and Business The scarcity of childcare facilities in Oberon has been a topic of conversation for some time but help is on its way. Oberon Council Extraordinary Meeting - June 11 June 13, 2024 in Community On June 11, Oberon Council had an extraordinary meeting to address two matters of concern to the local community. They were the approval of a Development Application for the next stage of the Oberon Sports Complex and a move towards heritage listing of the Memorial Avenue of Trees at O'Connell. Wandering around a wintery Oberon June 6, 2024 in Community Saturday, June 1, was bitterly cold heralding the start of winter, so Oberon Matters set off on an expedition to find out what was happening. After buying the Saturday papers, a perfect place to read them in the warmth would have been one of Oberon's many cafés. Hot chocolate was the order of the day. See all the photos here

Media Release - Oberon Playgrounds June 6, 2024 in Community The following was published by Oberon Council on May 31, 2024. Council provides several playground areas across the Oberon Local Government Area, some of which require improvements to meet current day safety standards. Raising money for a really good cause May 30, 2024 in Community Oberon's generosity was on display on Saturday, May 25, when about 150 people gathered to raise money at a trivia charity night at Oberon Showground. The event was organised by the volunteers of Oberon Inner Wheel, an organisation for women which complements the community service work of Rotary. Money raised on the night went to the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics. See the story and some pictures here

80 years of doing wonderful work May 23, 2024 in Community Oberon got together on Saturday, May 18, to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Oberon Hospital Auxilliary. The Hospital Auxilliary is a very important part of Oberon's community and the current and past committee members must be thanked and congratulated for the excellent work they have done over the past 80 years. That work goes on today under the current committee and hopefully will continue for decades to come. See the photos here
