Oberon's new childcare centre is on its way

June 20, 2024

The scarcity of childcare facilities in Oberon has been a topic of conversation for some time but help is on its way. A new purpose-built childcare centre is currently being constructed in Tasman Street across the road from Oberon Public School. Designed to accommodate up to 77 children ranging in ages from birth to five, the centre will be welcomed by parents who find their employment opportunities increased

The work goes on at 6-8 Tasman Street.

On the matter of employment, the centre will have 25 staff, making it a significant employer in the town.

The centre is being constructed for Circle Early Learning, who already have a centre in Blayney. It was a staff member at Blayney who first suggested coming to Oberon. "One of the staff at Blayney lives in Oberon and commutes," centre Manager Katherine Wilson said. "She suggested that we look at Oberon for a second location, and here we are."

Katherine Wilson is excited about opening the centre in Oberon.

Some of Ms Wilson's plans for the future include cooperation with the local schools. An association with Oberon Public School is obvious, because as well as being a close neighbour, parents of primary school aged children are quite likely to have younger offspring needing day care. The High School is different. "We hope to be able to offer work experience to students looking towards a career in early child care, with students doing one day a week at the centre," Ms Wilson said

Lots of building work going on.

The tradie traffic jam.

There's no doubt that the centre will be warmly welcomed to Oberon, and Oberon Matters looks forward to reporting progress with construction and the eventual opening.
