Black Springs kicks up its heels

Saturday, March 22, was a big day in Black Springs. There were activities all day as part of Oberon's Field to Forest Festival, starting with mass at the Catholic church, a tour of St Alban's "tin shed" Anglican church, guided heritage tours around the area, a community lunch and finally an old-time dance at the Black Springs Community Hall.

A new Councillor, progress with the NBN around Oberon, a problem with a particular home business, a conflict over what Councillors can say and do, who's who on some committees. And Oberon is set to get a new motor bike facility to bring in the tourists. A normal, eventful Council meeting.

2025 Oberon Shakespeare Festival

Something wonderful came to Oberon over the period of March 13-15, 2025 with the inaugural Oberon Shakespeare Festival, organised and promoted by the members of Oberon Rotary and featuring the acting skills of Come You Spirits.

Oberon's New Citizens

A Citizenship ceremony was held at the Oberon Council on Monday, March 17, welcoming six new Australian citizens.

Can Assist Charity Golf Day

Oberon's favourite charity got another boost with a golf day at the Oberon Golf Club organised by Jesse Graham of JJG's Chill & Grill which raised over $8,000 to support people with cancer in the Oberon Area.

Who doesn't love a school fete? Oberon turned on a lot better weather this year than last year when everything except the bouncy castle and the chook lotto had to be hastily moved indoors.

Flags get worn out with all that waving in the wind so sometimes they need to be replaced. Oberon MPS has a new Australian flag to fly proudly on the flagpole outside.

Council vacancy

Following the resignation of Jill O'Grady from Oberon Council, Michael Crye has been elected to fill the vacancy. This was done under the normal countback procedures adopted by the NSW Electoral Commission.

Autumn Garden Showcase

The Oberon Garden Club is hosting a weekend in April of Autumn Colour with eight cold climate gardens on show. These rarely seen gardens located throughout the Oberon district ranging from smaller in town gardens to historic estates and working farms.

School bus timetables - O'Connell to Tarana

Newman's Bus Services has some exciting news for O'Connell and Tarana residents. Transport for NSW has recently approved an extension of the current O'Connell school bus service. These changes will commence on Monday, 3rd March 2025.

February 2025 Oberon Council Meeting

The February 18 Council meeting was expected to be lively, with four motions proposed that asked for major changes to ways that Council conducted its business. There was a presentation from Arts OutWest and a quite large crowd objecting to  some proposed motions.

Get together with some friends

On the third Wednesday each month a group gets together at the Oberon Uniting Church for lunch. The Combined Churches Friendship Group is what it says on the tin - a group to encourage friendship.
