Edith car boot sale May 22, 2025 in Community

Scammers! The lowest form of life May 22, 2025 in Community and Opinion If you are a member of any of Oberon's community Facebook groups you will have seen people offering data entry jobs with high pay and flexible working hours. These jobs do not exist. The people posting the pretend advertisements have invariably joined the group within the previous few days and it is reasonable to assume that they are using false names, with new names being invented as the originals get blocked by admins. As they didn't like people commenting about their lies, their posts now have comments disabled. The only purpose of these advertisements is to gather information to be used for other purposes. And do they care if you don't like what they do? See here for some interactions with the vermin. Note that one of them didn't care about being insulted and both had left Facebook after a couple of days.

More raffle winners May 15, 2025 in Community
There always seems to be at least one raffle being sold somewhere along the Oberon Street shopping precinct, but there's one you should look out for every Friday outside IGA. It's the fundraiser for the Oberon Men's Shed, and the prizes are very worthwhile. Prizes vary from raffle to raffle, and can include trailer loads of wood as well as vouchers for groceries or products from other stores. The raffles are drawn when they are fully subscribed. The proceeds of these raffles will help to ensure the future of the Men's Shed. Definitely a worthy cause. And you might even win something. See the results of the latest raffle here
Oberon's New Living Treasures May 15, 2025 in Community and People
A community is made up of the people in it and their stories. If you walk through Oberon Common you can see a wall of images of Oberon's Treasures - people who helped make the history of Oberon. But those treasures were declared many years ago, so the Oberon Museum has embarked on a project to capture the stories of current living Treasures. See the story of the new Treasures here

A modest proposal June 26, 2025 in Community Updated October 9, 2025 Oberon seems to be running out of street festivals, but a suggestion has been made for something that doesn't require the closing of any roads. The idea is to have a busking festival, with musicians performing in front of the shops on Oberon Street. These events happen all over NSW, so why not here too? It's early days in the planning and there's a lot of work to be done before a date can be announced (some time in October seems likely). There will be costs associated (payments to performers, Council fees, ...) so we will be looking for sponsors. If you think such a festival is a good idea (or even a bad idea) or would like to help or be a sponsor, please
with your comments. Update: Unfortunately bureaucracy, red tape and lack of time thwarted the idea. Maybe next year.

Editorial - Council vacancies April 3, 2025 in Opinion and Community Updated October 30 2025 For the second time since the September, 2024, council elections, Oberon Council has lost one of the nine Councillors. This means another round of examining the September votes to find a replacement, with the additional cost and disruption to Council business that this entails.
