Easter around Oberon

April 24, 2025

Last year there was so much going on around Oberon over the Easter weekend that it was a bit hard to keep up, but things were a bit more relaxed in 2025. Oberon Matters had a look at some of the events and happenings over the four days.

Good Friday

Apart from the golfers taking advantage of a day off from work and the services at the various churches not much happened. The tourists flocked into town for the long weekend and filled up the camping spots at the Showground.

Saturday

There was a special market day at the Showground. (The normal markets are on the first Saturday of the month.) Together with the tourists camped nearby, locals turned out for a morning of shopping and buying nice things.

Easter Sunday

This is the big day for Christians celebrating Easter, so as expected the churches drew good crowds. Oberon Matters went to Black Springs for the service at St Aidan's Village Church. While the service on this day followed the Anglican script for Easter communion, this church declares itself to be "interfaith" and people from all religious backgrounds are welcome, and even people with no religion at all. There was at least one each of Buddhist and atheist in the congregation and nobody seemed to think they shouldn't be there. The church has services at 11am on the third Sunday of each month.

After the service, Oberon Matters headed out to Tarana for some music.

Monday

What better way to round off a weekend than watching dogs chase sheep? The day was the occasion for the 2025 Peter Moore Memorial Sheep Dog Trial at the Tarana Hotel. (And yes, we've heard all the jokes about who was found guilty, so don't start again.)

A quiet weekend, but still enough going on to keep everyone happy.
