Wellness morning tea

March 13, 2025

On Thursday, March 6, a presentation about maintaining mental health was given at Oberon Library. It was promoted as an event associated with International Women's Day.

Sonia Cox giving some good advice.

The presenter was Sonia Cox from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) who talked about various strategies to maintain mindfulness and mental wellness. One of the things done on the day was to distribute cards with suggestions about strategies on them, with each card having a different suggestion. The audience were asked to comment on whether the card they were given provided helpful advice for them as an individual and the response was universally positive. What this shows is that here are a lot of things to look out for that can influence a person's mental state, and knowing the triggers can be a good way to avoid problems.

Enjoying morning tea and a chat after the talk.

It was good to see some of the residents of the Oberon MPS Long Stay unit out for the day. Isolation is one of the big triggers and a day out meeting other people is always a nice change.

A day out was very welcome.

There were a couple of handouts on the day which provided very good advice.
