O'Connell Artisans car boot sale September 5, 2024 in Community On a perfect day for the start of Spring there was a car boot sale at the O'Connell Hotel to raise money for the restoration of the rectory at St Thomas's Church at O'Connell. A great big "Thank you" September 5, 2024 in General News It would be a waste of time maintaining this site if nobody came to look at it, so it is encouraging to see the growth in visitors over the last few months. The site has only been operating for seven months, and here is what the last three months have looked like. "Unique visitors" counts IP addresses that have connected to the site at least once during the month. It doesn't include search engines, but even if it did Google and Bing (who index the site at least once a week) would only be counted as one visitor each. It is the equivalent of "Circulation" for print media. Oberon Matters would like to thank everyone who comes to the site and reads what's here. If you like it, tell a friend. If you don't, tell us - there's an email link on every page.

Council election September 19, 2024 in Community The preliminary results of the September 14 council election are available. The count so far shows that four candidates have achieved the quota of votes needed for election. Note that the final count will not be known for two weeks, but these quotas are unlikely to change very much. - Frank O'Connor (1.59 quotas)
- Katie Graham (1.17)
- Clive McCarthy (1.27)
- Andrew McKibbin (1)
Three more are likely following distribution of preference: - Helen Hayden (0.97)
- Lauren Trembath (0.8)
- Anthony Alevras (0.71)
These results are as at 13:39 on Wednesday, September 18. The last date for delivery of postal votes is Friday, September 27, with final results announced on Thursday, October 3. As final distribution of preferences can't be done until all postal and declaration votes have been included, any progressive counts are only an indication until the official results are declared by the NSW Electoral Commission. The first meeting of the new Council will be on Tuesday, October 15, where the only business will be swearing in the elected Councillors and the election of the Mayor. | | | |
