It's Grand Final weekend September 26, 2024
It was a very busy weekend, with Oberon teams in the Grand Finals of the Under 15s hockey, the Senior Men's hockey and the Grade 3 Women's soccer. Oberon United Football Club Maintaining their record of being unbeaten all season, the Grade 3 Women's All Age team came out victorious by 2 goals to 1 in their Grand Final match against Macquarie
Here's what the team had to say: With a winning streak our Ladies took out the trophy this year at grand final! Thank you to all our supporters for showing up to encourage our ladies to keep fighting. First half of the game ending with a 1-0 score for Oberon from a beautiful corner kick right to the middle of the box where Ebony Howard had kicked it in the back of the net. Second half Macquarie black scoring an equaliser where the ladies went into extra time leaving the score 1-1. The first 10 minutes of extra time Paige Corby scored from a rebound off the keeper and went in the back of the net putting them in the lead with a score of 2-1. Fighting to the last minute Macquarie black scored their equaliser, putting the game to a penalty shootout. Tiarna Boundy and Jorja Taylor scoring their penalties. Our amazing goalkeeper Cass Ramires saving three goals securing our trophy, she truly is our woman, our myth and our legend! Congratulations ladies, amazing work to the whole team. Oberon Junior Hockey Association Things didn't go quite as well for the Under 15s hockey players, who went down 2-1 to St Pat's. The game was decided in the last seven minutes, which is an indication of how well matched the teams were.
Oberon Senior Hockey The men made it to the Grand Final against St Pat's but went down 3-1. There's always next year.
Oberon Golf Club Golf Results, 21 September. 38 starters played the par event in less than ideal conditions with wind blowing south-west making for tough conditions along the dam holes. A grade winner on count back wasRob McGrath from Phill Cummings. B grade winner was Robyn Stapelton on count back from Peter Griffiths. Nearest to Pins (in cms)
Also, the day saw the final round of the trifecta cup which was pretty close at the top in both grades with Darren Gordon winning A grade (109) and runner-up Rob McGrath (105). B grade winner was family affair, Sandie Higgins ( 107), runnerup Bill Higgins 104. The final match of the singles match play will be between Robyn Stapleton and Peter Griffiths. Next Saturday will be a stableford event with the weather forecast 14 degrees. With no wind it should be good roll up!
Thursday golf results Eric Whalan was the winner with 30 points, runner up was Stan Evans Balls went to Harold Lyme, Sean Mooney, Tony Ryan, Don Miller, Mel Taylor, Mick McKechnie, Mitch Hollihan, Barry Hoolihan and Laurie Murphy No one hit the green for the nearest to the pin.
