On Saturday, December 13, everyone in Burraga got together at the sports club for a Christmas party. Oberon Matters was otherwise occupied so the task of taking photos was delegated.

The gingerbreads are back

There are about 350 gingerbread people and houses along O'Connell Road through O'Connell. They will be on display for a month and there is still time to sponsor one, with all the money going to the O'Connell Public School's P&C. (The Oberon Matters sponsored man is playing cricket on the O'Connell Rec Ground.)

Oberon Matters took a walk to test out the new movie camera and you can see some of the gingerbreads here. (Santa has been asked for a gymbal carrier for the camera to reduce wobble.)

 

Councillor McCarthy Recognised for 30 Years of Continuous Service

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on December 16 Councillor Clive McCarthy was recognised for his 30 years of continuous service as a Councillor for the Oberon Local Government area.

It's gingerbread time again

It's that time of the year when gingerbread men and houses start appearing on the fences through O'Connell. This is an annual fundraiser for the O'Connell Public School P&C and you need to be part of it. You can see the fun from 2024 here and

Things were looking really bad with disastrous weather on the day before the Fish River Festival was to happen at the O'Connell Hotel, but everything came together on the day with excellent weather and excellent performances by all the artists.

7th Annual "Skoberon" Art Exhibition

Ever since the Skoda & Tatra Museum opened in Oberon in 2019 there has been an annual art competition showing works related to the two marques. The artworks are displayed along with Skoda and Tatra memorabilia.

The youth hall is finally here

After many years of planning, set backs and building work the youth hall at Lifechurch Oberon is finally open and ready to welcome the young people of Oberon to a safe place to enjoy the company of their friends (and people who might become friends).

A grant for the Military Museum

Paul Toole MP has announced that the Oberon Military Museum run by the Oberon RSL Sub-Branch has received a Community Building Partnership grant of $10,000 to improve the facility. Parts of the museum building have experienced water damage and flooding from recent weather events. This grant funding will be used to improve water run-off around the museum and repair some water damaged areas.

A perfect day for the Artisans' Market

The town turned out for the O'Connell Artisans' market to raise funds for the renovations of the rectory at St Thomas Church. The show gets bigger and better every year.
