Fields of dreams. We built them and they are coming

December 4, 2025

The sports fields are finally here.

On Friday, November 28, it all came together for Oberon's new sporting facilities. The new sports complex in Oberon was officially opened and the locals given their first chance to see what will be replacing the tired fields in Lowes Mount Road. It's been a long time coming, but once work started it got delivered on time and on budget. With two football fields and two netball courts already constructed, lots of parking and an actual grandstand with seats and rain coverage, memories of the old place will soon fade away. The licensed club will be opened on Australia Day in 2026 with much better facilities than at present and will soon become the place to drop in for a beer and a feed.

The ribbon was cut by Oberon Mayor Andrew McKibbin, Andrew Gee MP, Paul Toole MP and John Borg

Was it really only February in 2024 that ground was being broken?

But that's not all. On the same day, the O'Connell Recreation Ground was officially opened. Not just a place to play cricket but a welcome sports field for O'Connell Public School.
