2024 Fish River Festival

Things were looking really bad with disastrous weather on the day before the Fish River Festival was to happen at the O'Connell Hotel, but everything came together on the day with excellent weather and excellent performances by all the artists.

The Blue MUGS come to town

Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, saw the Blue Mountains Ukulele Group (The Blue MUGS) put on a free concert and workshop at the Oberon Showground, with local ukulele players invited to come along and join in.

A day out with some music at the pub
October 24, 2024 in Music

Sunday. October 20, saw the final show of "Brewing Ballads and Being Well" organised by RAMHP and Arts Outwest. This brought a group of musicians together to write and perform their own songs. Oberon Matters had been to the final workshop session where a couple of songs were rehearsed and changes made to make them better, and this was the end result.

The Malachi puts some "country" into the country

Saturday, September 7, saw another great concert at the Malachi Gilmore Hall, this time to celebrate the release of Chloe Swannell's first EP record. The opening act was Oak & Oranje who were an excellent warm-up for the main event of the night.

The main act was Oberon's own Chloe Swannell, and featured Chloe's song writing ability as well as her talents with voice and guitar.

Seasons of the Earth and Heart

Sunday, July 28, brought another excellent afternoon of Music to the Malachi Gilmore Hall, a performance by the Allegri Singers. The publicity for the concert promised "a widely varying program of choral and solo pieces" and the promise was kept.

Late, Late at the Malachi

The Malachi Gilmore Hall turned on another excellent night out with a performance of the play "Late, Late at Night" starring Jackson Carroll as Rick Springfield in a dramatised version of Springfield's life.

Stage Fright - ein Kabarett

Life is a Cabaret, old chum
Come to the Cabaret.

On Saturday, March 23, the Malachi Gilmore Hall turned on yet another exceptional night out, with a return to the days of cabaret and the music of performers like Marlene Dietrich, delivered via the talent of Jude Bowler and her show "Stage Fright - ein Kabarett".

The dictionary definition of "cabaret" is "a performance of popular music, singing, or dancing, especially in a restaurant or bar". Well, there was little dancing and the Malachi wasn't a restaurant for the evening, but the bar was open and the popular music and singing were certainly there.

Rhapsody in Blue at the Malachi
February 15, 2024, in Music

Oberon turned out in force on Sunday, February 11, for the first concert at the Malachi Gilmore Hall for 2024. The program was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first performance of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in February, 1923, with all the musical pieces coming from the same period in the early 20th century. Musicians were Carl Rafferty (piano), Joolee Kim (flute/piccolo), Hayley Mitchell (clarinet), Thomas Spencer (saxophone), Zach Raffan (trumpet) and percussionists Rauri Campbell and Othniel Ridley.
