Finally, progress on the relocation of the Leagues Club The saga of the new sports complex in Oberon has been dragging on for far too long, especially about the relocation of the licensed Leagues Club. At last, Oberon Council and the Leagues Club have signed the papers and the club can start moving to its new home. |  |
 | Rotary Changeover Saturday, June 20, saw the annual Changeover at the Rotary Club of Oberon, with outgoing President Neville Ross handing the Chain of Office over to Sharon Norris for the next year. The Club is quite small but has an effect in the community much greater than the size of the membership would suggest. Unfortunately there won't be a Shakespeare Festival in 2027, but one of the penalties of having few few members is that it can be a bit difficult to organise too many big events, and the Festival that has run for the last two years is certainly something big. The plan for 2026-27 is to concentrate on charity work, something for which Rotary is renowned, so keep your eye on the Club's Facebook page for the news about their activities. Congratulations to Sharon and the rest of the hard-working committee. The Club's membership is small, but it was increased on the day by the induction of new member Matthew Newton. If you have some spare time and would like to make a difference to the life of Oberon, joining Rotary might just be the thing you need to do. Again, the Club's Facebook page is the place to start. The Club meets every Tuesday at 6:30pm at the Oberon RSL and visitors are always welcome. |
Grab your Grab Bag. They're great. The Grab Bag, a new community health initiative aimed at improving emergency readiness for residents across the Oberon region was launched on June 19 outside the Oberon Council Administration Office. An initiative of the Oberon Health Council, the idea is to have all your medical information in one place if an emergency arises and you have to go to hospital. |  |
 | Finally, some mobile coverage in Black Springs It's only taken ten years of waiting and complaining but finally there is now mobile phone coverage in parts of Black Springs. Thanks to a grant from The Pines Wind Farm, there are now Telstra Cel-Fi GO Repeaters at the tennis courts and the community hall. It's not a perfect solution like a tower would be but something is better than nothing and nothing was what was likely to happen before the generous grant came along to pay for it. A year ago a petition was started to try to get coverage for the whole of the Black Springs area. The petition is still open, so go there and sign it. |

This week's Moron Alert Perhaps I should make this a regular weekly feature like Sport and Schools, because it seems that there's no shortage of idiots around Oberon. This week it's someone with almost negative driving skills who decided that the new Sports Complex would be the place to try out driving a 4WD on dirt. There's that old saying about the inability to drive a nail into a piece of balsa, and it certainly applies here. And if the moron is offended that's a good thing. |  |
 | Moron alert! If you wander around Oberon you will see lots of those teardrop shaped flags at various locations. One of them offended an idiot so much that they had to go running to Council to complain that it was a danger to the public. Just one, not any of the others. |
It's finally open Back in March this year, Oberon Matters visited the embryonic Crafters & Collectors @ 104, a new craft shop in the old rectory building at 104 Oberon Street. The place was just being set up and an official opening was still some time away. Well, now it's officially open for business. |  |
 | Carriages congregate for cars and Coffee It was the first Sunday in June so the fancy and not-so-fancy cars assembled on Oberon Street for the monthly Cars and Coffee meeting. Got a nice or unusual car? Bring it along next month. |
