Progress on the sports fields

June 19, 2025

The excitement is building around the new Sports Complex in Oberon. It was recently rumoured that it would open in June this year, but it looks like there's still some work to be done. One football field seems to be ready, with grass and lights and work is going on on the second football field and the netball courts. There's still a lot of work to be done on the car park and decisions about management of the licensed club are still being made, but the end is now in sight.

Speaking of lights, there were some complaints about the brightness and light pollution when the lights were tested. The Recreation Ground is 500 metres away and nobody seems to notice the lights there. Strange.

Over at O'Connell, the facilities block at the Recreation Ground is finished. There is a local fundraiser going on to get some goal posts (keep watching the local Facebook groups for details) and the problem of a concrete cricket wicket in the middle of a soccer field is a problem for the future. The plan suggests that there is still some landscaping and planting to be done, but the ground is ready right now for the next Fish River Cup match.

Things are progressing slowly at the Black Springs Recreation Reserve, but eventually there will be something special in that village too.
