Click go the needles, click, click, click May 29, 2025 On May 19, 2023, a group gathered at the Malachi Gilmore Hall to knit and crochet some rugs to keep audience members warm during winter performances at the hall. This project grew out of an idea by Lexi Kellam and Lynne Webb from the Oberon U3A Fleece, Fibre, Felt and Yarn Group. It all started in October 2022 when balls of natural raw wool were spun using wool supplied by Cress Dawson of Mount Olive.
On April 19, 2023, a second round of rug making took place, and then again on May 23 this year, with this last effort described as "the Cast Off". By doing this at this time of year, everyone is reminded of why keeping warm in Oberon is important.
Here are some photos of this year's knit-in. Something like this shows the meaning of the word "community", where a group of people get together to do something that benefits not just themselves but the wider community, including tourists who come for events at the Malachi and strangers in the town that the knitters and spinners might never have met.
