Tigers Senior Rugby League The 2024 Woodbridge Cup presentation night was held in Canowindra this year, and Oberon's very own Reece Ryan was nominated for the 2024 Best and Fairest award. Congratulations to Reece and all the other award recipients.
Oberon Junior Rugby League Oberon hosted an Under 10s carnival on Sunday, August 18. Everyone had a great time learning and practising new tricks and techniques.
Oberon Golf Club Thursday saw a near record number of 42 players turning up! The winner with 31 points was John Levy. Scott Hoolihan took the runner up prize on a count back. Balls went to Tony Ryan, Mark Ryan, Peter Ryan ,Garry Willis, Brendan Sanders, Jamie Sharah, Ryan Hanmer, Blake Pointon, Graeme McCusker and Mitch Hollihan. Nearest to the pin on the 17th was won by Garry Willis.
On Saturday, Luke Christie-Johnson (14) utilised some extra propulsion (possibly generated by one of Laurie Murphy's Potent Possum Pies) to grab the win in A-Grade with 37 points from Terry Robinson (14) on 35 points. In B-Grade, Jarad Cesarone's (38) 39 points was good for a 4 shot win over Alex McLean-Nielsen (24) who had 35 points. A return to Wintery conditions and 50mm of rain during the week made it tough and slippery on the 41 players with birdies very rare. In fact only 10 for the whole field on holes - 1, 3(2), 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14 & 16. LC-J and Hamish grabbed half the birds between them with Luke getting birdies on 3, 7 & 14 and Hamish getting 3 & 5. Nearest to the pin (in cms)
Oberon United Football Club No play for the juniors because of the weather turning the fields into swamps, but the 3rd Grade Women continued on their winning way.
The Club had this to say: "Our ladies team had a top of the table clash last weekend up against Macquarie Black. Great game and result for our ladies winning 2-1. Both goals going to our striker Bethany Wilkinson! "With one home game against Eglinton FC next weekend at 11am and our ladies team still remaining on the top of the ladder board they are one step closer to their minor premiership of their comp for the season. Can’t wait to watch and support our ladies at their last home game as well as in the finals. Please come and support them if you can they’d greatly appreciate it." Oberon Public School First in the Region! Congratulations to our ten pin bowling team who came equal first in the Western region at the inclusive sports carnival. They will now progress to the State Championships to be held in Campbelltown in October. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and wish them the best of luck. Natalie Beattie l Coordinator
