It's never too cold for a bit of sport

Oberon Golf Club

You might think that weather like it was early on Saturday, July 20, would make everyone stay at home in front of a warm fire. Here's what Oberon Golf Course looked like.

The call went out - "Golfers wanted for hazardous journey. High scores, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success."

And six brave (well ... the Psych tests will be back later) golfers answered the call. Neil Whalan was the best of the few with -2 in the Quarterly Par event with Laurie Murphy 2 shots behind and Hamish Anderson a further shot behind in third. Thankfully, all the starters made it back to the clubhouse.

Thursday had been a lot warmer.

Winner of the last beanie for brain cancer was Mark Ryan with 26 points on a count back from Jamie Sharah.

Balls went to John Levy, Tim Arnison, Kim Rawlings, Blake Pointon, Phil Cummings, Peter Griffiths, Josh Claridge and Josh Glazbrook.

No one managed to hit the green for the nearest to the pin.

Oberon United Football Club

The Under 13s had a perfect day to play, if by "perfect" you mean "cold winds with occasional showers interspersed with flurries of snow". The game started later than scheduled to allow parents to get over their "Surely it will be cancelled" thoughts.

The weather didn't stop the young Wolves beating Eglinton by 5 goals to 2. The Eglinton side probably thought that the Oberon weather was an advantage to the home team. Here are some photos of kids running around in shorts while parents and photographers were huddled into their beanies and scarves.

The weather was a lot better the following day when the 3rd Grade Women came up against Lithgow City Rangers, coming out victorious by 3 goals to 1, continuing their unbroken winning streak this season, (Well, the draw a couple of weeks ago wasn't a loss.)

Oberon Tigers Senior League

It wasn't a good weekend for the Tigers at Cowra, with the men going down 4-48 and the ladies 0-20.

Better luck next week versus Eugowra in the CanAssist round at home here in Oberon.

Oberon Squash Club

With the RSL Club being closed Monday - Wednesday we are in negotiations to run our comps on Wednesday and Thursday nights. (Limited access Wednesday night) We will be able to play early games for the following week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays if we need to. Can I please have some feedback from all players about these changes. We will need to get the comp running as soon as possible so we need to get names of players to start organising our teams.
