Give Golf a Go

March 14, 2024

As part of the celebrations for International Women's Day, Oberon Golf Club put on a "try it and see" day on March 10, described as "An afternoon of fun for women and girls". Golf professionals were on hand to give instructions, golf clubs were provided (because most people would not have had their own), and the Club turned on a barbecue afterwards.

Everyone learnt something, even those who had played before, and it was easy to see the improvement as the participants were given more advice and practised more. Anybody who has ever played golf knows that there is only so much you can learn by instinct and everyone improves with a bit of advice from someone who really knows how to swing a club.

There was no arguing - everyone had an enjoyable and educational experience

The Oberon Golf Course turned on on its usual excellent playing conditions and the grounds staff have to be congratulated for the way the course is maintained. Katie Graham must be thanked along with the professional coaches for putting the afternoon on, and it's hoped that something like this can be done on a regular basis. The Golf Club must also be thanked for waiving green fees for two months to let the participants come back and see how they like the real thing.

Perfect weather, perfect course. Who could complain?
