'The Wild Robot'

This semester, 5/6W have been exploring 'The Wild Robot'. Students have enjoyed creating camouflaged robots and hiding them around the classroom as well as co-constructing anchor charts and "Bump It Up" walls to support ideas for their own imaginative narratives.

Weather Wonders

Unveiled This term, 1/2S scientists are exploring how weather and seasons shape our understanding of the world around us. By investigating weather patterns and seasonal changes, they're discovering how these natural phenomena affect everything from our daily lives to ecosystems.

OPS Dance Groups

On Monday, the Stage 1 and Stage 3 dance groups competed at the Bathurst Eisteddfod. Both groups performed with confidence and enthusiasm, showcasing their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their achievement as they received Highly Commended for their outstanding efforts.

Thank you to Ms McMurray and Mrs Turner for their time and effort in preparing these groups to a performance level. We are very proud.

Department of Education Visit

We welcomed Mark Snow (Director, Educational Leadership) and Andrew Kutchling (Rel Executive Director) to our school. They took a learning walk through the school and spoke to students about their learning and progress. They were very impressed with our students, the single-sex Stage 3 classes and the leadership team who warmly welcomed them.

I was very proud to showcase the excellent staff and students who make this school the best place to learn.

Homework Raffle

Congratulations to Lucas Gear, Ashton Rigelsford, Kharna Kirk and Hudson Gilmore who won the raffle for handing in their homework. The winners chose a variety of toys and stationery. Well done, students!

Fabulous Friday Attendance

Congratulations to our attendance raffle winner, Olivia Murphy who came to school 90% or more of the time last fortnight, and it paid off. She received a Wok Chef voucher to share with her family.

Congratulations, 1/2S!

What an incredible achievement! We are so proud of our talented 1/2S students and Mrs Sheppard for winning the Primary Three Dimensional Award at the 2026 Waste 2 Art Regional Showcase in Broken Hill! Their amazing recycled sculpture, 'Whale of a Time', showcased their creativity, teamwork and commitment to turning waste into something truly wonderful. A huge congratulations to every student involved - your imagination and hard work have certainly made a splash! This morning, representatives from Oberon Council, Deputy Mayor Katie Graham and Community Services and Youth Co-ordinator Victoria Bewley, attended our assembly to present the award to 1/2S for an outstanding effort. Additionally, Sophie Gibbons was awarded runner-up (9-12 years) in the Oberon Council colouring competition, celebrating her creative achievement.

Symphony of Stories

We celebrated our annual book-week parade with our families. Our school was overflowing with amazing characters and costumes. Students enjoyed participating in our parade and showcasing their creations. Thank you to our families for coming along and arranging such creative outfits.

Bathurst Eisteddfod Excellence

The Year 3-6 choir participated in the Bathurst Eisteddfod with their songs "Yesterday"and "The Final Countdown". The students sang their hearts out and even had the audience clapping along as they performed. Competing against a very strong field, the choir won second place! Congratulations to all the students for their dedication and hard work, you should be very proud of yourselves.

Around the Rooms - Year 2

Year 2 has had a very settled and productive Term 3 so far.

We have just completed a Literature unit which features the books "Out" and "My Two Blankets", both of which highlight the experiences of refugee children whose families have made Australia their home. The unit culminated in a descriptive writing task entitled All About Me, which the students completed to a high standard and which was a genuine delight to read.

In Mathematics, students have been learning about combining and separating quantities. They have explored addition and subtraction by using concrete materials, drawings, number lines and mental strategies to solve problems. Students have been developing their understanding of how numbers can be put together, taken apart and rearranged in different ways. They have also been learning to represent and explain their mathematical thinking and apply their skills to a range of practical problem-solving situations. It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence and becoming more efficient and flexible when working with numbers.

In Geography, students have been studying water environments, including rivers, lakes, and oceans and how we can protect them. They have particularly enjoyed the Great Barrier Reef site study.

This week, Year 2 students enthusiastically led Huff and Puff for the school. There may be some future fitness instructors in our midst!!

Take a Bow!

How incredibly proud we were of both of our choirs at the Bathurst Eisteddfod yesterday. Their performances were absolutely faultless, and they showed such wonderful discipline, confidence and composure on stage. Our students are to be very proud of themselves and the way they represented St Joseph’s. I am sure the parents who were able to attend were extremely proud as well. A huge thank you to everyone who assisted with transport and supported our students on the day. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated.

Celebrating Skills Week with an amazing community spirit!

A huge thank you to everyone who generously offered their concreting skills to support our school projects. We were overwhelmed with the offers of support from our community. Your willingness to lend a hand truly showcases the power of collaboration! The OPAL Class had the fantastic experience of working alongside Billy from Walsh and Sons Constructions as they concreted the new bike rack area. It’s incredible to see skills in action, making a real difference for our students. Thanks to Billy for giving up his time and our whole community for helping us improve our school and our students skills.

Book Week! Our Book Week finale on the Quad at recess was a blast, with students and staff dressing up as their favourite characters . The creativity and enthusiasm were truly inspiring! NAIDOC Celebrations

Our NAIDOC celebrations began with a welcome ceremony and traditional dance, followed by activities such as art and ochre painting , cooking Johnny Cakes, and workshops with Gerald the Bush Tucker Man . Gerald also provided a unique lunch featuring kangaroo and crocodile sausages . After lunch, students enjoyed lively TIG games, making it a memorable day of cultural learning and community spirit.

Energy Exploration

Our Stage 4 MC Science students have been enhancing their skills and understanding in the unit "Change Involves Energy" by conducting experiments on generating power using water turbines . Through these activities, students explore the principle that energy cannot be lost, only transformed. Since energy is also stored in plants , it was the perfect time to remove our frost covers and prepare the plants for Spring . The students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on nature of this task.

Freak Shakes

As part of the Stage 5 Food Technology assessment in the Trendy Foods unit, students were challenged to design innovative freak shakes. This task encouraged them to explore contemporary food trends and unleash their creativity.

We were very fortunate to have Mark Snow, Director - Educational Leadership for the Bathurst Network, and Andrew Kuchling, Rel. Executive Director Regional North and West, visit our school to see what is going on at OHS. Our SRC leaders were able to introduce Mr Snow and Mr Kuchling to some staff and students and showcase some of the vibrant spaces around our school.
