Students were tested with words like astute, stupendous and allargando. Some of the words we hadn't even heard before! Congratulations to Eli Ayres (Junior division) and Tegfatehyab Singh (Senior division), who were the best spellers at our Spelling Bee. They will participate in the regional final next term. History Unveiled Last week, our local historian, Phillipa Gemmell-Smith, spoke to students about Oberon's early history and the crossing of the Blue Mountains. Students learned about explorers Gregory Blaxland, William Wentworth and William Lawson - the first Europeans to cross the region. Phillipa also shared how Governor Lachlan Macquarie sent George Evans to mark a road, leading to Evans Crown and landmarks like the Fish River and Black Springs. It was a wonderful session that brought local history to life. Lorraine Hotham | Classroom Teache
Van Gogh's visions in 5/6T 5/6T have been experimenting with a range of artistic mediums while learning about the work of Vincent Van Gogh. Inspired by his famous painting Starry Night, students explored colour, texture and movement to create their own unique artworks. Karissa Turner | Classroom Teacher
St Joseph's Catholic School Many thanks to all for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. Our school was a sea of pink and we made a $200 donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Thank you again to all our staff, students and families for helping make last week's Wellbeing Week such a wonderful success. It was fantastic to see our school community come together to celebrate kindness, connection and fun. At last Friday's assembly, we proudly shared the special wellbeing video that was created to thank our teachers and staff for all they do. Below are some photos from our whole-school dance parties, which were enjoyed by everyone! Students enthusiastically joined in and kept asking for "just one more song!" A special thank you to Year 6 and Mrs Martens for bringing the party atmosphere and leading by example. Their energy and encouragement helped everyone feel confident to get up, have fun and dance like nobody was watching!
Around the Rooms - Year 4 This term, Year 4 students have enjoyed a wide range of engaging learning experiences across the curriculum. In English, we have enthusiastically begun exploring a new class text, developing our reading comprehension skills. Students have also been active in martial arts, tennis and gym lessons, building confidence, coordination, and teamwork. In History, we have investigated the topic of First Contacts, gaining valuable insights into Australia's past and the experiences of different groups. A particular highlight for many students has been our visual arts lessons, where we have explored line, colour, and blending techniques while developing our artistic skills and creativity. Students are currently learning about printmaking, which they have found both fascinating and enjoyable. We are proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and effort Year 4 students have shown throughout the term.
