Local Superheroes

We had a special visit from the O’Connell RFS. Our students learnt the importance of fire prevention, emergency preparedness and the essential role our local firefighters have in our community. A massive thank you to the O’Connell RFS for the fire safety tips, the sirens, the unexpected showers and the smiles that followed! We truly appreciate all that you do to keep our school and community safe!

Nests, Nature and Ink

Stage 2 have had an amazing day at Brewongle Educational Centre. Students were intrigued during a handwriting lesson when they had to use an ink well and a nib pen. Teachers and students enjoyed exploring the ponds and looking for new and interesting creatures. The afternoon session was spent investigating nature and making mud pies. Looking forward to getting on the water in the kayaks tomorrow.

Early Start Success

We excitedly welcomed our newest learners for their first taste of big school. Whilst the children were having a great time playing, laughing and making new friends, parents enjoyed an information session about what to expect during the early days at school. Year 5 Buddies helped make sure children felt welcomed and comfortable. Together they had morning tea and shared stories. We’re sure there were lots of great stories to share about today’s experience.

Musical Viva

This week the Lithgow Small Schools combined, with our friends from Megalong PS, to enjoy a visit from The Musica Viva performance. Two Wheel Time Machine took us on a journey to discover that performing and creating music is just like learning to ride a bike!

A Wonderful First Day for Our New Pre-Kinders!

We welcomed our newest little learners as our Pre-Kinder children started their exciting school journey! It was a day full of smiles, curiosity, and new friendships. A big thank you to our amazing Year 5 buddies who were a fantastic help — showing kindness, leadership, and helping our littlest students feel right at home. Special appreciation goes to Miss Pringle and Mrs Hi.

Shakespeare in Oberon

Ms Saboisky spent four days in the holidays volunteering with Oberon Rotary at Mayfield Garden. This was to thank them in advance for the upcoming 2026 Oberon Shakespeare Festival, which will include an incursion at school and opportunities for students to participate. Mayfield Garden was beautiful, and the wildlife - lizards, wrens and finches in particular, just amazing. If any students want to participate in the Festival, please speak to Ms Saboisky in the English staffroom.

Active Kids Day

On the last day of Term 3, we joined our Small School friends for Active Kids Day. Our students learned and practiced skills in Rugby League, Softball , Golf and Tennis. We also celebrated "Redtember", wearing red and raising funds for Ronald McDonald House. Thank you to Mrs Blattman from Neville PS for her organisation, the sports coaches for their knowledge and fun activities, and to the Blayney High School students who assisted throughout the day. Our students had a wonderful day.

The NSW Department of Education has announced that Black Springs Public School could be mothballed from the start of 2026 because of falling enrolments. Local resident Jess Kinney has made this appeal:

Our School Needs You! Our wonderful school is at risk of closing due to low enrolments. If you've been considering joining our community, now is the time! We have passionate teachers, small class sizes, and a caring environment - but we need your support to stay open. Please spread the word, share this post, and help us keep our school doors open for future generations. Enrolments are now open!
