Oberon High School

Tech Exploration

Stage 4, 5 and 6 students attended the Bathurst CSU Tech Day, an event aimed at showcasing IT careers for regional high school students. In partnership with the Australian Computer Society Foundation, this day offered students a chance to learn about new technologies and explore various career possibilities in the technology sector, specifically AI and cyber security. Our students engaged with industry professionals and gained valuable insights into the world of information technology.

'Winterfest' Celebration

What a fantastic way to wrap up the term with our 'Winterfest' celebration. A huge thank you to the SWE team for organising such a wonderful event. The theme was 'Wear your Beanie' and staff and students were asked to donate a cold coin. We raised $116 for The Mark Hughes Foundation.

Students enjoyed delicious sweet and savoury food stalls, and the "Rock Band" featuring Miss Amber Hibbert and Miss Chloe Swannell had everyone tapping their feet. Mr. Michael McKeon showcased his incredible talents playing an ABBA medley.

A short assembly was held where we celebrated the outstanding contributions of Trevor Youngson and Lisa Conlon, who were recognised for their Kind Citizenship.

Congratulations to our lolly guessing competition winners, 1st prize: Bel Melchers, the lolly jar held 343 lollies, 2nd and 3rd prize: Beau Ryan. Thank you to the students of "Making Connections" for raising $45 to donate to Oberon St. Vincent de Paul.

Dramatic Performance

Last Saturday, six members of our After School Drama Club performed for the Oberon Rotary Changeover Lunch at the Oberon RSL. They performed scenes from Shakespeare and Matt Cameron's Ruby Moon. Mr McKeon learned nine pages of dialogue in a short time, filling in for absent members. The audience, including our local member for Calare Andrew Gee and Mayor Andrew McKibbin, were highly appreciative. They commended our creativity and theatrical presentation!

Combined Small Schools - Public Speaking and Fairy Tale Day.

Hampton School hosted a memorable event on a chilly winter day, as students from Megalong and Cullen Bullen Schools joined us for our Combined Small Schools 3-6 Public Speaking day. The students showcased their public speaking skills with poise and confidence, encouraged by their peers. Concurrently, K-2 students enjoyed an engaging fairy tale day, marked by interactive enquiry-based learning. We acknowledge the invaluable contributions of all who helped make this day a resounding success.

St Joseph's Catholic School

Around the rooms - Year 6

Here in Year Six another great term
The energy, the smiles, we've had so much to learn.
With heads down and pens up, we've improved out of sight
Working together with Jesus, our guiding light.

In Mathematics our thinking skills were explored
With strategies and problems and challenges galore!,
In History the government was the topic of conversation
How parliament works and the birth of our nation.

In English our novel was ‘River Murray Mary'
With snakes, a flood and an explosion so scary
The Mighty Murray River, Australia's Food Bowl
We must protect it, that is our goal!

In Science we have studied the changes in matter
Chemical, Physical oh the talk, oh the chatter!
With balloons and sugar and salt we did test
Our little science lab was simply the best

We all enjoyed sport travelling around town
Playing tennis and board games, at the gym oh wow!
We enjoyed our music from all different places
Listening, playing and moving, lots of happy faces.

As we near the end of a wonderful Term Two
Thank you Year Six, each and everyone of you
We are a great team and you've all worked to the max
It's nearly the holidays and time to relax.

Love Mrs Brown xxx
