Oberon's schools are back from the break May 8, 2025
Oberon Public School First Scientists On Monday, we welcomed Longneck Lagoon Environmental Education Centre who provided rich and engaging scientific learning for all students K-6. Students hypothesised, investigated and tested scientific concepts whilst learning about rock painting, fire making and sustainable fishing. They looked at successful skills and strategies used by first nations people. Nicola McMahon | Coordinator
Oberon High School Education Success Congratulations to Mrs Michelle Curry! Last Wednesday, she celebrated her graduation from Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, receiving her Bachelor of Education K-12 with a focus on Mathematics. We are so proud of her achievement and can't wait to see the positive impact she will make in the classroom. Well done, Mrs Curry! Tristan Goodwin | Principal
CAMP DAY ONE We arrived at Lake Burrendong just in time for lunch. We then set off on our afternoon activities. We had archery and orienteering first up and finished the day with Mini Olympics after dinner. The Benchwarmers took out the Olympics after 10 rounds
ANZAC Day School Ceremony We held our annual ANZAC Day school service and we were grateful for the presence of Bill Wilcox from Oberon RSL Sub-Branch. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and gave the Ode. Mr Wilcox's attendance reminded us that members of our community have served in wars throughout history. The commemorative address was given by our school leaders who reminded us of the sacrifice made by our service men and women in the past and asked us to support those serving now. Lest we forget. Tristan Goodwin | Principal
CAMP DAY TWO! Today group 1 (7R) spent the morning lighting fires with a flint, cooking damper and practicing their survival skills while group 2 (7B) had a blast on the pedal carts before going on a mountain bike ride around the grounds and down to the dam. After lunch, 7R had their turn on the pedal carts, matching the other classes lap records. They then went grass skiing while 7B had a very leisurely afternoon cooking damper and practicing their survival skills. During survival skills, both groups learnt how to use the elements to create a shelter and collect rainwater during the random onset of Cyclone Turnbull. Thankfully all survived. By this stage, at the scorching temperature of 24 degrees, year 7 convinced the camp staff to reopen the pool for them to cool off for the afternoon. After dinner, the night activity was "Minute to Win It" which was full of giggles and goofy activities. Tomorrow, Mr Turnbull and the boys are going for a run to explore the rest of the grounds before we jump into our final activities. Mountain biking for 7R and grass skiing for 7B before all in archery tag.
St Joseph's Catholic School Terrific Attendance Across the School! We're proud to share that our school achieved a fantastic attendance rate for Term One - thanks to the dedication of our students, families, and staff who make learning a top priority! Our school's attendance rate for students was 94% while the diocesan average was 91%. A special congratulations goes to Year 3, who led the way with the highest attendance rate of 95.95% for the term. Their commitment to being present, on time, and ready to learn every day has set a shining example for others to follow.
