A quiet week in the school holidays
July 18, 2024
With the schools on holidays, the only report this week is a look
back over Term 1 at St Joseph's.
St Joseph's Catholic School
Around the Rooms - Year 5
As we approach the end of another successful semester, we reflect
with pride on the achievements of our Year 5 students. Throughout the
past term, Year 5 has exemplified dedication, enthusiasm and a strong
commitment to learning. In their mathematics studies, they immersed
themselves in the exploration of 3D objects, mastering concepts of shape,
size, and mathematical properties with creativity and insight. Their
ability to design and analyse these objects was impressive, showcasing
both their innovative thinking.
Beyond academics, our Year 5 students showcased their athleticism
and sportsmanship at netball and soccer gala days, representing our
school with pride and demonstrating exceptional teamwork. A notable
highlight was their advocacy for environmental conservation, as they
penned persuasive letters to government officials advocating for the
protection of our natural wonders. Their passion for the environment
and articulate arguments underscored their potential as future leaders
and activists.
Looking ahead to the next term, the school community anticipates
engaging activities, starting with Book Week—an opportunity to celebrate
the joy of reading and imagination. Additionally, our school counsellor
will be guiding Year 5 students through important topics such as emotional
regulation, fostering skills that are essential for their personal growth
and well-being. As we approach the mid-year break, we encourage our
Year 5 students to take this time to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy quality
time with family and friends. Their accomplishments this semester have
been commendable, and they deserve this well-earned rest before embarking
on new adventures in the upcoming term. Thank you to our Year 5 students
for their hard work and dedication. We look forward to witnessing their
continued growth and success in the future.
Kind regards, Mr Harvey and Mr Brown.

Around the Rooms - Year 6
To conclude what has been a very successful term in Year 6, the students
have written some free poetry on Murray River since concluding our class
novel "River Murray Mary". Take a look at some very imaginative poetry:
Twisting, turning through
the trees Rushing like a swarm of bees Never stopping……never
resting. Muddy green, muddy blue with some gloom. Through
the green and blue The water's sound is like dancing trees
All singing and gleaming, all prancing and dancing. But still
it rushes very fast, Never stopping…..never resting.
Charlee Scott |
Flying over the long, winding
river With big, branchy bushes side by side. The birds
spotted the cod As the fish dashed along the cold, bold river
Sand washing off the shore…the end…the mouth. The wind swaying
the trees, making them dance The beautiful, polished river.
Arrina Yee |
The river turned and swirled
like a big snake Massive like my birthday cake. As the
river turned like a rubber band There lies the big farmlands
created by human hands. The water, as clear as crystal, gets
faster Suddenly it reaches the beach. Max Behan |
The river twisted and turned
and twirled Water crashes in river The animals watch as
the river runs As fast as a bird flying through the air
Who knows what lies beneath? The Murray Cod. A good fishing
spot to relax and unwind As the sun sets and the water sparkles
once more The sun says goodbye. Ryder Day |
The river looked crystal
clear, Just like a piece of snake skin. We always see
it in our dreams Just like a ribbon, thick and thin. With
a bit of pace, Always making our hearts race. All day
long, face to face It's always a bit of a running race.
The Mighty Murray River. Trevor Youngson |
It twists and turns,
Rapidly runs around like a snake. But underneath, a big hungry
cod waiting… For a tiny little bird to fall in the water.
Untouched bushland, Around the edge of the riverbank.
Filled with trees and bushes While paddlesteamers rush down
the river. Slow down and enjoy it. Harry Pointon |
The river splashing on the
shore Meeting the ocean. Turned and twisted all the way
there Just for this moment for the beautiful end… This
is the end of the river All of its water meets the end.
The beautiful birds watching the river While the river finally
completes its goal. The river can now rest It has reached
the end, the ocean. The fish can explore more, The farmers
can water more. This moment is all the river needs No
more trying to get to the end. The river finally made it….finally
peace. Gracie Lewis |
Trees line the riverside,
the river never gets tired. Shining like a knight, might
give you a fright. The green green grass, to die for when
you pass. Locks and weirs, makes you look at your peers.
Twisting like a tornado, makes you feel like play-doh. The
Mighty Murray runs. Jack Kilby |
It's a never ending river.
The depths are lurking with secrets It's teeming with cod
and carp Birds like herons are flying in the skies The
platypus comes to play. The water goes by reaching the sea
Brown in colour but blue at the end Will it ever be the same
again? Inyaki Lawas |
Along the Murray like a
slithery serpent It flows, slow and shy, green and bright,
blue and clear Twisting and turning like a winding road.
Snap! Quickly past the farmlands, silently past the fisherman
All along the billabongs Crack and snap the snags are there,
yeah everywhere! Suddenly it all stops. Bentley Armstrong |
Looks like a snake, hurt
by the human way Trees on one side, dirt on the other.
Green then brown. Droughts drying it, rain flowing it
Locks and weirs and the Snowy Mountains Scheme. The ever
changing Murray River . Hunter Kilby |
