Oberon High School Metal work skills Students in Stage 5 Industrial Technology 200-hour are currently engaged in a project to enhance their fabrication skills, they are making a firepit. Students are developing an appreciation for accuracy in marking out, techniques for cutting and shaping, using plasma cutting equipment as well as developing their welding skills. Running Triumph Last Wednesday, nine students represented Oberon High School in Orange at Western Cross Country. On all accounts, our students represented the school beautifully and all ran a tough, competitive race. Special mention goes to Jason Certoma and Cattleya Maloney who are now off to represent Western at State. We are super proud of all our students and can't wait to see how Jason and Cattleya progress. Ebony Fenton l Coordinator
Do It for Dolly Day Last Friday, the SRC ran a fundraiser and awareness campaign against bullying. Students were invited to wear blue as a tribute to Dolly Everett. Students could purchase a blue scrunchie for $5 (which were flying off the self!) made by Miss Fenton. We raised over $300 to be donated to the Dolly's Dream foundation. Emma Randle - SRC President
Stage 5 Food Technology Cake Decorating During the study of the unit Food for Special Occasions, students had to select an event or celebration to investigate. As part of the assessment task students had to design a cake that would be suitable for the celebration or event chosen, as well as bake a cake or cupcakes that they could then decorate as part of the food supplied at the event. Students undertook a series of practical lessons where they baked their cakes or cupcakes to demonstrate they could be safe and hygienic participants in the kitchen environment. They then formed fondant creations, iced and decorated cupcakes and found interesting ways to utilise buttercream icing techniques such as watercolour icing, piping and combing buttercream with other items to create their masterpieces. Laura Young - TAS Teacher

They passionately shared ideas for schools for the blind, schools for the elderly and schools for fun! Danni-Lee Thompson l Relieving Principal
Fabulous Friday Attendance Congratulations to our attendance raffle winner, Mia-Marrie McKinnon came to school 90% of the time or more last fortnight, and it paid off. She received a voucher from Albert at Oberon Farm Meats. Kelly Sheppard l Attendance Team
Waste Warriors Unleashed! Our talented students have been hard at work, transforming everyday packaging waste into stunning works of art. Their masterpieces are now ready for the spotlight at the Local Waste 2 Art competition. This initiative challenges the notion of "rubbish" and celebrates the beauty of reuse, reduction and recycling through arts and crafts. This year's theme is "Packaging," and our students can't wait to showcase their creations at the exhibition. Kelly Sheppard l Coordinator See also: Waste to Art winners
Good Luck! Good luck to Tye Newstead who is representing Western Region at the NSW PSSA Under 11's Rugby League State Championships at St. Marys. We know you will represent Oberon Public and Western Region proudly. We look forward to hearing the results. Danni-Lee Thompson l Relieving Principal
St Joseph's Catholic School We have been very busy in Year 2 this term. Our Religious Education lessons have centred around signs of God's love. The students were able to identify some symbols, signs and rituals of the Catholic tradition and the key times of the Liturgical Year. In English, we have been enjoying studying the hybrid text Great White Shark. The students are now shark experts! We were even able to track a shark and watched a video showing how seals avoid a shark attack.
In Mathematics we have been learning and consolidating different strategies to solve subtraction problems including the jump strategy and the inverse strategy. In Science and Technology, we have been looking at mixing materials this term. So far we have looked at combining different materials and seeing which ones combine and which ones don't mix well... like oil and water, they don't like each other at all! In the next couple of weeks we will continue mixing materials and seeing how each one reacts with the other and we get to make something to take home too!
