The schooling just keeps on coming May 16, 2024 Oberon Public School Book Bonanza! Take a look at these fantastic books you can purchase through our Book Fair next week. The second week of our Book Fair is on Monday 20th - Wednesday 22nd and it will run the same as last year. Students will be able to attend and create a wish list which will go home to see if you would like to buy any of the items. All payments will need to be made online by clicking on the following link https://parentpayments.scholastic.com.au/form and entering the amount you wish to pay. You will be given an 8-digit receipt number which you will need to write on the back of the wish list along with your details. This can then be exchanged for items at the Book Fair. District Cross Country A very big congratulations to all the students who represented our school at the District Cross Country. All competitors demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and should be extremely proud of their efforts. A special congratulations to Aiden Odobasic, Maisy Christie-Johnston, Georgiana Mavros, Amelia Mills and Marshall Taylor for making it through to Western. Footy Frenzy Thirty-one students from years 3-6 travelled to Bathurst to participate in the David Peachey Russell Richardson Rugby League Gala Day. All four teams had a very successful day with many victories and some narrow losses. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came along to support us. Taya Austen l Coordinator

Tremendous Touch On Monday, May 13, our boys and girls PSSA touch football teams played in Oberon. Our girls team showed great determination but were defeated 3-2 in extra time against a skillful Small Schools team. The boys team showed great talent coming away with a 16-3 victory against Small Schools. The boys will now progress to the next round that will take place in the coming weeks. Hockey Champions Our girls' hockey team travelled to Bathurst on May 14 for the opening round of the PSSA hockey knockout competition against Perthville Public School. Demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, remarkable team unity, and unwavering determination, they were successful winners 3-0. The girls will now progress to round 2 of the competition in the coming weeks. Thank you to all the parents who came along today to cheer the girls on, we appreciate your support. Speech Superstars Congratulations to Ava Thompson, James Watson, Kally Sperelakis and Tahra Gibbons who will represent our school at the CWA Public Speaking competition. These students will be heading to Orange in the next few weeks to compete against other schools in the district. We wish them luck and eagerly await to hear about their experiences. Oberon High School Mother’s Day Craft Our school's Girls Group was full of excitement as they joined to create Mother's Day craft. Students created paintings and made cards and jewellery that will bring joy to their mother’s today. Girls Group is on Tuesday week B, lunchtime in the hospitality area. Ebony Fenton l Girls Advisor
Off to State On Friday May 10 the Open Boys and Girls Volleyball team travelled to Bathurst to compete in the Western Top 8 Knockout. The boys played well but their opposition was too strong on the day. The girls played exceptionally well defeating Orange High School, Dunedoo High School as well as Canobolas High to make it to the Grand Final against Blayney High School. The girls were unsuccessful, finishing second in the competition. Our girls will compete at the State Championships in Sydney. What an achievement for our wonderful small school. NRL Ref Course Kyle and Shannon from Creative Community Concepts kindly came out on Monday, May 13, to train a handful of our eager students in how to referee NRL games. The students had a morning theory lesson, followed by a practical session in the middle of the day. By all accounts, they enjoyed their day and are now ready to potentially help referee some junior Oberon Tigers games. Ebony Fenton - PDHPE/Mathematics Teacher
Year 7 Music Year 7 have begun their music course this year with some fun and colour learning the ukulele! Some basic chords and strumming patterns have been mastered and they are well on their way to learning Maroon 5's "Girl Like You". Miss Jackson and Miss Swannell have been impressed with the focus and dedication of Year 7 so far as they have been enjoying this instrument. Fiona Abbott - Principal Rlg
