They Say They're Saving a Forest. They're Really Saving Coal.

There's that old saying: "Follow the money". Social commentator Frackman Project has done a bit of research into what is going on around Oberon. It's worth a read.

Misinformation is your uncle at a barbie passing on some dodgy story he picked up on a building site. Honest stuff-up. He heard it off John'o the brickie's labourer and he's just passing it down the line.

Disinformation is a completely different animal. It's a product, someone built it, someone paid for it, and they know exactly what they're doing. It's made to mislead you, on purpose.

Your uncle made a mistake you can forgive. The other's done on purpose and the people behind it should be called out.

First, the Wind Farm They Want Dead

So let me show you a live one, this is playing out right now.

There's an outfit called Coalition for Conservation (C4C), and they're throwing everything they've got at killing a clean energy project on Sydney's door step.

The Pines Wind Farm is out near Oberon in the Central Tablelands. It mostly sits inside a pine plantation.

It'd be the biggest clean energy project in the main grid, 250 wind turbines, enough power for 1.25 million homes. And the site is about as good as it gets. It's close to Sydney, where the power actually gets used, it sits right next to an existing 500kV transmission line, so it barely needs a new power line built at all. If any project should be an easy yes, it's this one.

I've Hunted That Forest My Whole Life

Here's what Coalition for Conservation are banking on. They hope you've never been out to these forests. Fair enough, most people haven't. But I have. And they're not really forests at all. They're pine plantations.

If you've spent any time out there, you'll know the feeling. You're driving through the plantation, you come over the top of a hill or round a bend, and that's it. The whole place is desolate. Harvested. Not a tree to be seen. Like a wasteland.
