The Allegri Singers are back in townJuly 10, 2025
Saturday, July 5, saw a welcome return of the Allegri Singers to Oberon.
The choir has this to say: "The Allegri Singers is a Bathurst-based mixed voice choir, established in 1978. With a membership of around 30 voices, the choir usually presents at least two major concerts each year in the Central West, as well as performing at local civic functions, regional music festivals and community events. Since 2006, the choir has been under the musical direction of William Moxey, a distinguished professional musician who specialises in teaching singing and choral production." The performance was in the hall at Oberon Uniting Church, which was just the right size for the audience and provided excellent acoustics on the day.
AS you can see, the program featured a wide variety of music, demonstrating the versatility of the choir. As well as the full choir, there were solo performances by harpist Paris Masters and sopranos Sienna Flannery and Kathy Powell, as well as a group performance by Kathy Powell, Sienna Flannery and Madeleine Flannery.
A highlight of the show was Kathy Powell performing "I just want to sing in a choir", demonstrating that a good singer can sing badly when required.
The backing music for the day was provided by Debbie Nicholls on electric piano.
It was an excellent way to spend an afternoon and you should watch out for any future performances by the Allegri Singers. They usually do two shows a year around the Central West. And if you want to know what they sound like, here's the final song of the day.
