I was delighted to attend the opening of the Oberon Carers' Retreat adjacent to the Oberon Health Service and hospital. The retreat has a kitchenette and bed to allow carers to stay while caring for a loved one or to seek some respite from staying directly with a loved one. The facility also has a cuddle bed to allow children and others to cuddle their relatives when in palliative care. The initiative was driven by the Oberon Health Auxiliary and supported financially by the Federal Government, The Oberon Garden Club and Borg. Many businesses donated their time, craftsmanship and materials including Bunnings, Bailey Homes & Construction, HV Electrical and Samuel Plumbing.

The Oberon Community Science Network (OCSN) is holding an event at the Malachi Gilmore Hall on Saturday 15 August to promote interest in science and technology. The emphasis is on science and technology issues that are of direct importance and interest to the Oberon community. OCSN seeks to do this in an impartial manner, informed by scientific evidence. OCSN are currently investigating the scientific evidence regarding the benefits and the inevitable impacts of large-scale renewable energy developments on local communities and in particular on the local environment and biodiversity through engaging and collaborating with scientific experts in Australian universities. There will be an exhibition of OCSN work and talks by experts on a range of subjects.

The Black Springs Hall was constructed in 1976. On 20th November 2026 the Black Springs community will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their hall with a dance. There will be a $20 entry charge with attendees being asked to dress in the style of your favourite decade. The event is bring your own supper and drinks/alcohol. Music will be played spanning the 50 years including Country and Western, Rock n Roll and jazz. Buses will run from Oberon and Bathurst. See the Visit Oberon website to book tickets.
