Oberon Matters was more than a little disappointed at missing out on a 356 grant again, especially as the site seems to meet all of the criteria for a grant except one which is irrelevant to this sort of activity.

  • Alignment with Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
    • A search of the Council's web site for "Community Strategic Plan" turned up a reference to a "Local Strategic Planning Statement" which deals with land use. This has no relevance to Oberon Matters.
  • Demonstrated community benefit and inclusivity.
    • Every community needs a news source, and the number of visitors to the site each month indicates that Oberon Matters is meeting that need.
  • Financial and operational viability.
    • Except for a small income from advertising, the site is funded out of my Age Pension. Two years and no sign of going broke.
  • Capacity to deliver outcomes.
  • 747 stories over 112 editions answers this question.

Maybe next year.
