A busy Saturday morning

April 9, 2026

Easter Saturday was a good day for going around Oberon and finding things to do.

Oberon Markets

Well, it was the first Saturday in April, so the markets were on at the showground. The place seemed to be packed so maybe the holiday weekend brought in a crowd. (There were more than the usual number of campers outside.)

Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway

The station used to be open on the first Saturday of every month, but now it's only a few times a year. Whenever it's open it's a good time to visit, even if it's just for a delicious morning tea in one of the carriages. The whole operation is open for anyone who is interested and there are guides to take visitors around and explain how everything is gradually coming together to get the railway running again.

Oberon & District Museum

Open every Saturday, the museum presents a fascinating insight into where Oberon is today and how it got there. Of special interest is the display showing the growth and importance to the timber industry.

The closure of Victoria Pass was expected to limit the number of tourists coming to town for the long weekend, but the large number of campers at the Showground, Flat Rock and Avoca Park in Black Springs suggests that some people had packed up the car and were prepared for the traffic problems (or prepared to put up with them).
