2026 Oberon Shakespeare Festival - The Festival FeastApril 2, 2026 The Shakespeare Festival Feast at the Malachi Gilmore Hall wasn't just a meal, it was a night of entertainment, frolic and fun. And even dancing.
And there was audience participation too. As well as a competition to find the best appropriate dress for the occasion, there was a group-written play, with suggestions provided and the various tables at the feast encouraged to write their own Romeo and Juliet lines. Great fun, but university English Masters' candidates aren't eagerly asking for the results.
And as for being in the wrong place at the right time, Oberon Mayor Andrew McKibbin was pressganged into becoming an actor, with his lines fed to him through an earpiece.
A special thanks has to go to the members of Oberon Rotary for organising the event and Oberon Inner Wheel for catering a delicious meal. Let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
Note about the page background: The faint image you see in the background is the first page of Romeo and Juliet as printed in the First Folio of Shakespeare's works, published in 1623. The image is courtesy of the Bodleian Library at Oxford.
