Media release: Oberon Men's Shed

Oberon Men's Shed Inc has announced its vision to grow the Shed and provide for its future viability.

Our vision is to purchase land and provide a purpose-built shed large enough to allow anticipated growth for the next 20 years and beyond.

The local community has been supporting the weekly street raffles with enthusiasm for about eighteen months, and part of the fundraising has been to put funds aside to enable the purchase of land. Once that land has been secured the plan will be to seek grants to construct a shed.

It's now time to place the case before our community and in particular the wider business sector to seek tax deductible donations to advance our big vision.

Oberon Men's Shed Inc is a charitable organization and your donation is tax deductible.

Oberon Men's Shed (OMS) was established in 2009 as a Council initiative and at the behest of the State Government.

The basic premise of OMS is to provide a local, informal location where men can spend time engaged in manual crafts, be socially active and form friendships that allow new opportunities for community activity and interaction. The Shed currently has a membership averaging 35, with ages from 19 to 93.

Oberon's Housing Strategy indicates that Oberon is a growing town with a spread of ages, but with a tendency towards retirement years. It's predicted that there could be as many as 500 new dwellings built in the Oberon LGA in the next 20 years.

OMS is currently operating in confined conditions, is gradually having a natural increase in membership and within the prescribed 20 years could easily double its membership. The need to purchase land and construct a shed that fits our purpose into the future is becoming critical.

The OMS vision is your opportunity to get behind the pre-eminent local association that has been devoted to great men's health and outcomes for the past 16 years.

This announcement is certainly visionary but is also achievable in the medium term with assistance from the Oberon Business and Tourism Sector and the general community.
