This week's Minute with Mayor McKibbinJanuary 15, 2026
The end of 2025 saw Christmas celebrated across the Oberon Council area. On Saturday 20 December Black Springs celebrated with a party in the park for children as Santa Claus arrived on the Fire engine to hand out gifts. Everyone then moved to the hall for Carols, raffle and dinner. Oberon Community Christmas in the Common followed on Sunday 21st December. The event was a great success with live music from a number of bands, food and drink stalls, craft stalls, and again Santa Claus, foregoing his sleigh and reindeers, and a arriving on a large red fire engine. A great event due to the hard work of the Community Services Working Party. The Oberon Cup celebrated its 25th year at the Bathurst Harness Club on 9th January. A record number of sponsors and guests g attended the event. It was a memorable evening for attendees f with 8 trotting events occurring on the paceway. Auctions and raffles occurred all night and the proceeds went to Ronald McDonald House. beron Council will in 2026 be pursuing the construction of its new Sewerage treatment Plant. This will be a major project for Council due to its technical/ engineering complexity and its S construction value of $18.5 million including contingency and Project management. Oberon will continue to receive updates in relation to renewable projects within or in close proximity to S Oberon Council area. The proposed construction of windfarms is a highly contentious issue, and Council will continue to raise issues and concerns with the proponents and the State Government I which is the final approval body. The January-February period and school holidays provide time to see some of Oberon's attractions. As well as Mayfield Gardens and S our wonderful agricultural and horticultural activities do not forget that. Andrew McKibbin
