NAIDOC Day at the Common

Date

The theme for the 2025 NAIDOC celebrations was "The next generation: Strength , Vision and Legacy" and a good crowd got together at the Oberon Common on Saturday, October 25, to join in the celebrations and participate in the various activities.

Oberon's Deputy Mayor, Katie Graham, gave a short speech welcoming everyone and emphasising the importance of the event.

The Theme of the next generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy is an important one as it brings together young and old to celebrate Aboriginal culture and achievements. It allows the contribution of ancestors to be honoured and also recognises the strength and brilliance of the next generation. This next generation is leading the way in many areas not thought of in previous generations but at the same time remembering who they are and where they came from.

Bringing generations together to celebrate Aboriginal culture and achievements in our community ensures the culture continues to be celebrated into the future.

We are very fortunate here in Oberon to be able to join together in the activities today that give us an understanding of Aboriginal culture and we can all learn from this year's theme of Next generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.

Thank you

A highlight of the day was the presentation of some dances representing various aspect of the local ancient culture.
