Speaking of culture, here's some car cultureOctober 9, 2025 On the first Sunday of each month some car enthusiasts get together in Oberon Street to show off their prides and joys. The collection each month could best be described as "eclectic", with old bangers awaiting restoration parked side by side with classics that have had tonnes of love (and maybe money) thrown at them. As the idea is really just to get together for a social coffee and chat it doesn't have to be a Concours d'Elegance. And that's a good thing. If you have a car, bring it along next month. Anecdote When I retired from rallying it coincided with me getting a company car, so the V8 Holden station wagon that had towed the rally car and transported the fuel and service crew to many remote locations was surplus to needs. Someone suggested that I might like to swap the wagon for his sporty car. He was very impressed with the condition of the wagon, a condition maintained by occasionally washing it and vacuuming out the dust. He was very concerned about car quality and appearance (I heard him shout at one of his children who was about to put a fingerprint on his car). He had good cause to be proud of his car, because it had taken out First Prize at a national Concours d'Elegance for that make in Adelaide just a few weeks before. His wonderful "don't touch this" champion car had large rust bubbles around the hatchback window. If that was the best of its make in the country I could not imagine the worst. I decided to keep the Holden because it didn't have any rust at all. PB And here's some photos from the October meeting.
