A brief history of the project was provided by the museum.

The competition arose from an idea gleaned when a small book was received from Skoda Auto (Czech Republic) setting out the history of the Skoda marque in a series of oil and water paintings. There has been a long history of artistic depiction by artists residing in Europe and the United States of America. With the foundation of the museum In Oberon there emerged from conversations the idea that the museum could include in its operation and function the encouragement of Australian Artists to depict aspects of the two marques.

Artists in Residence
From 2019 the program has provided a positive contribution in that each invited artist to date has not only executed a pleasing work of art for permanent display but has also chaired the judging panel for the art competition.

The museum displays the paintings from each year as well as a collection of memorabilia related to Skoda and Tatra vehicles over the years. It's well worth a look. You can contact the museum through their Facebook page to find out when it's open or to arrange a visit.
