John and Patricia Moss show how even a small, standard building block can be transformed with a bit (lot?) of hard work and enough time. What was a totally bare block a few years ago now holds a lovely collection of plants. This is a traditional garden surrounding the house with edged flower beds, but the effect is to create surprises as you walk around. There are not only flowers, but fruit trees (which produce fruit that birds love to peck at), shrubs, larger trees and even a choko vine like our grandparents had growing over the outside toilet.
