The 124th Oberon Show was the best yet

February 15, 2024

The 124th running of the Oberon Show on February 10 was a great success. The weather was perfect, the crowd was large and enthusiastic, everything you would expect at a country show was there and the entertainment was first class.

Two people deserve special mention.

The first notable person was show committee Life Member John Brotchie, who was declared Patron of the Show for his long and distinguished service to the event over the years.

Congratulations to John Brotchie, who was made a Patron of the Show
in recognition of his long support and service.

Floyd Neil won the $40,000 QuickShear competition by getting all the wool off a sheep in 20.65 seconds. (Oberon QuickShear is reputed to carry the biggest prize money in the world for this event.) Count to 20. That's how long it took.

Congratulations to both.

Sort of apology - what you won't see in the collection of photos are the chain saw races, the wood chopping or the yard dogs rounding up sheep. When any of these things were happening the camera was at the opposite end of the showground. Here are some photos from the 2023 Show to reduce disappointment.
