Oberon gets a taxi. At last! January 30, 2025 It's no secret that Oberon is a public transport desert. There's the bus to Bathurst that goes four times a day (three in school holidays) and the one that goes to Tarana to meet the Bathurst Bullet (but only once each way - bad luck if you want to catch the later trains). There used to be a bus to Mt Victoria station but it only met a few of the trains (and not every day) and was stopped because Transport NSW insisted it had to be a full sized coach like the ones that are used instead of train services to many country towns. The cost of running it couldn't be justified for the few passengers it carried.
The good news is that Oberon now has a taxi service. It's run by Ashdeep Nash, who has a fleet of taxis servicing Bathurst (including some with wheelchair access). Currently there is only one taxi working in Oberon but this could change. Ash is looking for a local driver so that the car can be permanently based in Oberon, with all running costs for the vehicle covered by the owner. Ash has been in the taxi business since 2012 and has a commitment to running clean, well maintained vehicles. The taxi currently being used in Oberon is the top of the range, with leather seats and all the other luxuries that this implies. You shouldn't believe the stories told by those offering alternative taxi services (which they call "rideshare" to pretend that it's just mates giving people lifts) about real taxis (with actual legal insurance and registration) being always dirty inside with rude, unbathed drivers.
