Your Federal Member's Community Update
This week I put the spotlight on the state of the Great Western Highway. Here's the speech I gave to Parliament: "The Bathurst 1000 on the weekend was an outstanding success, but as we watched the long queues of cars struggling to get back over the sandstone curtain, we were once again reminded of the failure of successive governments to deliver a permanent high-speed connection to Sydney. "This is negligence on the part of government, pure and simple. Businesses are going broke, lives and livelihoods upended, and there is no plan or vision for this vitally important national road corridor.
"You cannot fix a major artery with a bandaid! That's what's currently happening with the patch-up job on the broken 1832 convict bridge. Maybe we should get the convicts back, because it seems they were the last ones with any vision for that road! It's a disgraceful way to treat a region that contributes so much to the wealth and prosperity of our state and nation. "The Great Western Highway must urgently be designated a national infrastructure priority. It must be backed by serious state and federal funding. Our businesses must receive the support they need and deserve. We've had enough of the cheap words and the empty promises. This debacle is an ongoing disgrace." MASSIVE WIN FOR BATHURST AS HDT COMES HOME! Huge news for the spiritual home of Aussie motorsport! The iconic HDT brand is relocating to Bathurst with a major investment! New owner, and 2 time Bathurst 12 Hour winner, Kenny Habul has announced plans for a world-class HDT facility right here in Bathurst - featuring performance enhancements, tuning, a museum, showroom, and workshop! A thrilling new era could be about to begin for Bathurst, creating local talent opportunities and preserving Holden, HDT and Peter Brock's incredible legacy. Investments like this don't come along every day. We now need Bathurst Regional Council to sell them the land at the mountain needed to make it all happen. We certainly don't want Sydney getting its hands on this awesome project!
The Stronger Communities Programme provides funding to community organisations for eligible projects that deliver social benefits and strengthen local communities. Community groups and organisations across the Calare electorate are invited to express their interest in being considered for nomination under Round 10. There are changes to eligible activities in this round, so organisations are encouraged to carefully review the Round 10 guidelines before applying. Don't miss this opportunity to support a project that will make a real difference in your community. Interested organisations should contact our electorate office to request an Expression of Interest (EOI) form. Email: Authorised by Andrew Gee, MP, Suite 1/179A Anson Street, Orange NSW 2800 |
