Boyd River Camping Area

This is situated in the Kanangra Boyd National Park. Access is by about 20 kilometres of good quality dirt road (Kanangra Walls Road) from the intersection with Edith Road just before the descent to Jenolan Caves. The road is suitable for two-wheel-drive vehicles even when wet, but care needs to be taken to avoid animals and other drivers. (Oberon Matters was given a fright coming back from taking the photos by a 4WD coming the other way that managed to lose control at about 60km/h.)

The main things to do there are bushwalking and driving the next few kilometres to the Kanangra Walls lookouts and walking tracks. It's also a nice place to just sit, relax and do nothing much at all. The hut at the site was built from timbers recovered from the wharves at Woolloomooloo, stone mined at nearby Jerrong and recycled iron.

As it's in a national park pets are not allowed, and you can leave your drone at home too. Also, the National Parks and Wildlife Service who maintain the road and site ask that campers book their sites before going there. (There is a $6 booking fee.) This is for safety, as it's right in the middle of bushfire country and there's no mobile phone coverage so if anything goes wrong the NPWS need to know who's there. Access to the park is free and you don't need the NPWS annual permit.

Everything you need to know can be found at the NPWS web site.
